Volunteer With Us in Sri Lanka – February 2027

Join Lucas Helps Dogs in Sri Lanka for a spay and neuter clinic and be part of a project creating real, lasting change for street and community animals.

Who We’re Looking For

We are primarily seeking:

  • Qualified veterinarians

  • Qualified veterinary nurses

  • Final-year veterinary students 

Experience with spay/neuter or high-volume clinics is helpful but not essential. 

Clinic Overview

  • Location: Sri Lanka (clinic site details provided to confirmed volunteers)

  • Dates: February 2027

  • Clinic duration: 4 full clinic days

Volunteers will support spay and neuter surgeries for street dogs and cats, including:

  • Surgery

  • Anaesthesia monitoring

  • Post-operative care

  • Assisting local veterinary teams

What to expect

This work can be emotionally challenging. Volunteers must be prepared to:

  • Witness animal suffering, including untreated injuries and illness

  • Work in a resource-limited setting

  • Experience different veterinary approaches and protocols than those used at home

Costs & Funding

This is a self-funded volunteering opportunity. Estimated costs per person:

  • Flights: around £700
    (Often cheaper with 1–2 stopovers)

  • Airport transfer to clinic site: £90
    (Can be shared if arriving on the same day)

  • Accommodation (5 nights):

    • Local guest house: from £50

    • Shared private villa: from £150

    • 4-star hotel: from £250

  • Food: around £8 per dinner
    (Lunches provided on clinic days)

  • Tourist visa: £37

  • Rabies vaccination: £200–£300
    (3 doses required)

All costs are approximate and may vary.

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Rabies vaccination is mandatory

  • Valid travel insurance is required

  • Volunteers should be comfortable working in warm conditions and a fast-paced clinic environment
